Meta Recruitment Process

Meta's technical interview process for graduates is intentionally lean and fast-moving compared to many large tech employers, reflecting the company's "Move Fast" culture. The entire process, from application to offer, typically takes 2-8 weeks.

For E3/E4 candidates, the loop is coding-heavy, with system design introduced meaningfully only from E5 onward. Understanding each stage in sequence helps freshers know exactly what is evaluated and when.

Meta Recruitment Process -Overview

The recruitment flow moves from resume screening and a recruiter call, through a technical phone screen and a coding-focused onsite loop, to a Hiring Committee review and team matching.

Meta Recruitment Process for Freshers 2026

The 2026 recruitment process runs on a rolling basis and consists of the stages below, applied in strict sequence from the recruiter screening call through to team matching and offer rollout.

1. Recruiter Screening Call

An informal 15-30 minute phone or video call with a Meta recruiter covering your background, resume, and project experience. The recruiter explains the interview loop, role families, and location options, and assesses communication clarity and genuine interest in Meta. Recruiters do not ask technical or coding questions at this stage.

2. Initial Technical Phone Screen

A 45-60 minute live coding interview conducted over video call using a shared coding environment, commonly CoderPad. Candidates solve one or two Data Structures & Algorithms problems, typically LeetCode Easy-Medium difficulty, and are expected to explain their approach out loud before writing code. Interviewers may add follow-up twists to the same base problem to test adaptability.

3. Onsite / Virtual Loop - Coding Interviews

Candidates who clear the phone screen proceed to a virtual or in-person "onsite" loop consisting of 2-3 coding interviews, each 45-60 minutes, focused on core computer-science fundamentals.

Coding Loop Focus Areas

The coding rounds test fluency across the following areas, with clean, working code and correct edge-case handling expected throughout.

  • Arrays, strings, hashing, and sliding-window techniques
  • Linked lists, trees, and graph traversal (BFS/DFS)
  • Recursion, dynamic programming, and optimization trade-offs
  • Clean, working code with correct handling of edge cases

AI-Assisted Coding Round (New for 2026)

Meta began piloting an AI-enabled coding round in late 2025, and it is expected to become a standard onsite round for most software-engineering pipelines through 2026. It runs 45-60 minutes inside a specialised CoderPad-based environment with a built-in AI coding assistant.

Candidates may use the AI assistant to help write or refactor code, similar to real day-to-day engineering work at Meta, but must be able to read, verify, debug, and explain every line of the generated code. Interviewers probe whether the candidate can catch subtle bugs, question incorrect AI suggestions, and optimise the final solution. Evaluation focuses as much on judgment and verification skill as on raw coding speed.

4. System Design / Product Architecture (mainly E5+)

For senior and staff-level candidates, and occasionally for strong E4 candidates, a 45-minute design round follows one of two tracks.

Design Tracks

  • System Design - scalability, distributed systems, databases, caching, and performance trade-offs (for example, designing a URL shortener, a news-feed service, or a messaging system)
  • Product Architecture - API design, client-server interaction, data modeling, and usability trade-offs for a product feature

Both tracks are evaluated on four criteria: problem navigation, solution design, technical excellence, and technical communication.

5. Values-Based Behavioral Interview

A structured 45-minute evaluation, more rigorous than a casual chat, built around Meta's six core values. Candidates answer using the STAR framework (Situation, Task, Action, Result), and interviewers probe for ownership, collaboration, direct communication, and long-term thinking. Follow-up questions test the consistency and depth of the examples provided.

6. Hiring Committee Review

All interview feedback is compiled into a candidate packet and reviewed independently by a Hiring Committee composed of senior engineers who were not part of the interview loop. This separation is designed to reduce bias, with the committee basing its hire / no-hire decision purely on written feedback and evidence. If feedback is split, an additional interview may be requested.

7. Final Selection / Offer

New-grad hires enter Bootcamp and complete team matching after 6-8 weeks, while experienced hires match to a team before or shortly after the offer. HR discusses compensation, location, start date, and visa/relocation logistics, and the formal offer letter is issued via the Meta Careers portal and email.

7.1. Interview

Meta's interviews are conducted live over video with a shared coding environment, and each round is scored independently on a hire/no-hire scale before holistic review. Evaluation is consistent across the loop, covering four core dimensions: Problem Solving, Coding, Verification, and Communication. System design carries much less weight at E3/E4 than at E5 and above.

Frequently Asked QuestionsFAQ

How many rounds are there in the Meta recruitment process?

The process spans 10 stages, from resume screening to team matching and offer rollout. The interview loop itself typically includes a phone screen plus 3-4 onsite rounds.

What are the names of the Meta recruitment rounds?

Recruiter Screening Call, Initial Technical Phone Screen, Coding Interview Rounds, AI-Assisted Coding Round, System Design / Product Architecture, and the Values-Based Behavioral Interview.

Are the rounds elimination-based?

Each round is scored independently on a hire/no-hire scale. A single weak signal can be offset by strong performance elsewhere, but a pattern of "No Hire" ratings is very difficult to overcome.

Is there a coding round in the Meta hiring process?

Yes. The loop is coding-heavy, with a technical phone screen and 2-3 onsite coding interviews covering data structures and algorithms.

What is the AI-Assisted Coding Round?

A 45-60 minute round in a CoderPad-based environment with a built-in AI assistant. Candidates must verify, debug, and explain every line of AI-generated code.

Is system design part of the process for freshers?

System design carries much less weight at E3/E4 than at E5 and above. It is mainly applicable to senior candidates.

Is Meta hiring campus or off-campus?

Meta hires through the Engineering Bootcamp for full-time new graduates and Meta University for freshmen and sophomores, both applied to through the official careers portal.

How long does the entire recruitment process take?

Typically 2-8 weeks from application to offer. Meta hires on a rolling basis, so timelines vary with headcount availability.
