META Interview Experience 2025
The following documents the interview experience based on the typical META virtual onsite loop, direct applications, and university programs. The process includes recruiter screening, technical coding rounds, a values-based behavioral interview, hiring committee review, team matching, and the final offer.
Round 1: Recruiter Screening Call
The first round in the hiring process is a 20-minute call with a university recruiter. The discussion covers the candidate's background, resume, interest in the role, and location preferences. The conversation is generally low-pressure, and the recruiter explains the complete interview loop and shares preparation resources through the candidate portal.
Round 2: Technical Phone Screen
The technical phone screen is conducted through a 45-minute video call using CoderPad. Candidates may be asked one medium-difficulty array or hashing problem, followed by a scaling-related follow-up question.
The interviewer expects candidates to explain their approach before writing code. Time and space complexity are discussed after the solution is completed.
Round 3: Virtual Onsite Loop
The virtual onsite loop typically includes 3-4 back-to-back interviews covering coding, AI-assisted coding, and values-based behavioral questions.
Coding Interview 1
Candidates may be given a tree traversal problem followed by an additional requirement to create an iterative, non-recursive solution.
AI-Assisted Coding Interview
Candidates use the built-in AI assistant to draft code for a given task. In one reported experience, the candidate was asked to create a caching layer and then identify and fix a subtle expiry bug in the AI-generated code.
This round tests whether candidates can collaborate with AI tools while critically verifying the generated output.
Coding Interview 2
Candidates may receive a graph problem involving the shortest path with weighted edges. The solution can require Dijkstra's algorithm, followed by a discussion of time complexity and possible trade-offs.
Behavioral Interview
The behavioral interview lasts approximately 45 minutes and focuses on META's values. Questions may cover Move Fast, Be Direct, and Meta, Metamates, Me.
Candidates are expected to answer using the STAR method and support their responses with genuine examples, specific actions, and measurable outcomes.
Round 4: Hiring Committee Review
After the interview loop, feedback from all interviewers is compiled into a packet. The packet is reviewed by engineers who were not involved in the candidate's interviews.
The candidate does not participate in this stage because the process is entirely internal. The hiring committee review typically takes 3-7 business days.
Round 5: Team Matching and Offer
Candidates who receive a positive hiring committee decision are contacted by the recruiter. The candidate then participates in team-matching conversations with 2-3 hiring managers from different META organisations.
Once the team match is completed, the offer letter is issued through the META Careers portal. It includes the compensation breakdown, such as base salary, bonus, restricted stock units, and the proposed start date.
Off-Campus / Direct-Apply Experience
Candidates can apply directly through the META Careers website. In one reported experience, the candidate applied in September for the Engineering Bootcamp cycle and received a recruiter-call invitation approximately two weeks later.
Preparation focused on META-tagged LeetCode Medium problems and more than five mock interviews. The AI-assisted coding round was initially unfamiliar, so the candidate deliberately practised identifying and correcting problems in AI-generated code.
During the graph problem, staying calm and thinking aloud when temporarily stuck helped demonstrate composure and structured problem-solving.
Campus / University Program Experience
Candidates can apply through the META University program. The program experience may include two lighter coding interviews at the Easy-Medium level and one behavioral conversation calibrated for undergraduate students.
Selected candidates join a 10-week paid META University summer program with a dedicated mentor and program buddy.
Strong performers may be fast-tracked to a standard software engineering internship during the following summer. This pathway can later lead to a full-time New Grad offer.
Common Challenges and Solutions
- Time Pressure in Coding Rounds: Candidates should practise solving two problems within 45 minutes while also explaining their approach, writing code, and discussing complexity.
- Verifying AI-Generated Code: Candidates should deliberately practise identifying bugs introduced by AI tools instead of assuming the generated output is correct.
- Behavioral Depth: Behavioral answers should include specific metrics, actions, and outcomes instead of general statements.
- Interview Fatigue: Back-to-back virtual onsite interviews can be tiring. Candidates should use short breaks whenever the interview schedule allows them.
- System Design Nerves for E5+ Roles: Candidates should structure system design answers by covering requirements, scale, architecture, and trade-offs in a clear sequence.
Overall Interview Experience Summary
The META recruitment process consists of recruiter screening, a technical phone screen, a 3-4 round virtual onsite loop, hiring committee review, team matching, and the final offer. The virtual onsite evaluates coding ability, data structures and algorithms, AI-assisted development, communication, and alignment with META's values.
Strong command of core data structures and algorithms is essential. Candidates are also expected to think aloud, discuss complexity, test their solutions, and critically verify AI-generated code. Genuine interest in META's products and mission, supported by authentic values-based examples, is another important success factor.
